Cafe Maiasmokk
Tallinn’s oldest cafe is named Maiasmokk, and it translates to “person with a sweet tooth" - and this confectionery has been serving sugar to the people of Estonia since 1864.

The coffee-house became known for its marzipan in the late 19th-century, and it was so renowned that even the Russian Imperial family came down to buy their treats. Walking into the cafe today is like stepping back through time, because its interior hasn't been touched for over a hundred years!

Pro tip: Once you order your latte and cakes, skip sitting on the main floor where all the tourists are huddled, and head upstairs to sit next to one of the second floor windows that open up to the charming streets below. The cafe up there looks like its trapped in a photo from the 1800s, with its mahogany chairs, brass wall lamps, and creaky wooden floors.
