Margaret Sanger
Meet the founder of Planned Parenthood, nurse Margaret Sanger. Born into an Irish Catholic family, she watched her mother go through 18 pregnancies until the toll of childbearing killed her. After having to watch her mother suffer, she is quoted as saying, "No woman can call herself free who does not own and control her body. No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or will not be a mother."

In 1918 she founded the American Birth Control League which later became Planned Parenthood. Back then it was illegal to even talk about birth control, and she was arrested many times in her mission to help women.
