Ethel Payne
Known as the "First Lady of the Black Press," Ethel Payne covered everything from the Vietnam War, to civil rights, to the White House. Both she and Alice Dunnigan were the first two African American women to hold White House press passes, and she became the first black female commentator on a national network when she was hired by CBS in the 1970s.
