We don't know about you, but when we fall asleep in our makeup, the result is anything but cute. We're talking greasy skin, smudged mascara, and clumpy eyeshadow. Not a pretty picture is it? Thankfully, we chatted with celeb makeup artist Mally Roncal backstage at Tracy Reese to learn once and for all how to perfect the "slept-in" look without, well, actually sleeping your our makeup.
Here's how she created Tracy Reese's downtown, sexy slept-in eye in only four steps.
Step 1: Create a Fierce Cat Eye
Roncal gave the models an urban-cool look that can only be accomplished by one thing: a fierce liner. She used Mally Eye Opening Precision Liner to create a super dramatic cat eye. She started in the inner corner of the eye and worked her way out, lifting the liner up just a tad at the corners. "It's just a very, very fresh look for the eyes," Ronal said of the liner. "It's really lifted."
Step 2: Line and Feather the Eye
Roncal then used Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Liner in Rich Dark Chocolate to line the bottom of the eye. "You take it, and you first rub it onto your hand," she explained. "And then you take a fluffy eyeliner brush and just feather the liner under the eye." By feathering the liner, it begins to smudge just a little to give the slept-in smoky line.
Step 3: Create a Full Bottom Lid
The next step is to give the illusion of a fuller bottom lid. Roncal prefers to use Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Liner again for the liner, but this time she suggests a sexy platinum silver hue called Starshine. "I'm really going for sort of an Asian puffy-eye effect," she said. "It gives you a sexy full bottom lid."
To really accomplish that beautiful full, almond-shaped bottom lip, Roncal says don't just stick to using the silvery liner in the inner corners of the eyes. In fact, you should really bring it out a little further toward the center of the lid.
Step 4: Top off With Mascara
And finally top off the look with your fave mascara. Whether you need ultra-volumizing (like the models at Tracy Reese!) or waterproof, Roncal has a number of of mascaras to fit the bill.
Really, it's as simple as that. A sexy, smudged, slept-in eye—sans the gunk and clumps!
