Fire up the BBQ and stock up on sunscreen, the countdown to the most anticipated holiday of the summer has begun. If you're looking to show your All-American spirit, but, uh, wouldn't exactly be caught dead in one of those flag tees—or really any other kitschy red, white, and blue getup for that matter—listen up.

We've rounded up four totally cute, not-at-all-tacky ways to create some serious fireworks this 4th of July—none of which will leave you with a closet full of stuff you can only wear thrice a year. Read on!

Blue Eyeliner: Considering colored eyeliner—especially pops of cobalt and navy—is all the rage at the moment, there's no better time to test out the trend by giving your peepers a bluest, er, boost. You're bound to sweat, though (if not, who are you?), so be sure to layer on a sturdy eye primer beforehand. It'll prevent the dreaded mid-day, four-beers-deep raccoon eye.

Swimming in all the options out there? Here are four of our newest favorites (clockwise, from L-R): Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in "Navy" ($6.99 at drugstores), Lancome Le Stylo Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in "Blue Oasis" ($26 at lancome-usa.com), Hard Candy Shadowholic 12-Hour Waterproof Eye Crayon in "Cloud 9" ($5 at walmart.com), and L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Eyeliner by Pencil Perfect in "Cobalt" ($8.95 at drugstores).

Red Lipstick + Cute Sunnies: Okay, so if we want to get real honest here, you're probably going to wear your sunnies all day up until the fireworks anyway, so it gives you an excuse to go easy on the eyes (or completely bare!) and bold on the lips. Show your patriotism with an iconic, Americana red like MAC's Ruby Woo ($15 at maccosmetics.com) and pair it with electric blue frames a la Gwen Stefani.

Flag Nails: Hands down, nail art is the easiest, non-cheesiest way to pay homage to the stars and stripes. Pop over to Pinterest for heaps on inspo to get you started or skip the trouble of actually doing any handiwork on your own (read: be lazy) and invest in some USA-themed nail wraps. We love these $10 ones from Nail Rock.

Braided Updos: There's something inherently free about a wispy braided updo. It's all about that flower child-y, laidback vibe. Plus, this goes without saying, but no hair on your neck in 90° weather = heaven.

Oh, and one last friendly reminder: the coolest trend of all is sunscreen. We've got five great brand-new options for you, right here. Don't forget it!
