Attention beauty fanatics: it's totally acceptable to go nude. Well, at least for your lips it is. (Clothing is still advised for most, if not all events.)

No longer are nude lips reserved for days spent sans makeup. Lately, stars have been sporting the flesh-toned lip trend at a number of red carpets. Don't believe us that the au naturale look can be evening appropriate? Check out these five totally sexy nude lips.

Kim Kardashian nailed the barely-there look at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, where she sported just a subtle swipe of a flesh-toned lip gloss.

Worried that a nude lip will make you look washed out? Fear not! Kerry Washington proved that the right shade of nude lipstick actually can brighten your whole face.

Ashley Tisdale at the LA Premiere of Scary Movie 5:

Ashley Tisdale chose a fleshy lip at the premiere of Scary Movie 5 (yes, there's another one.) Because Tisdale opted for a nude lip, she spiced up the rest of her look with a sultry smoky eye.

Kate Mara at the Kate Young for Target Launch Party:

Kate Mara showed that a simple nude lip color is never overpowering and can actually give a fun youthful vibe.

Kaley Cuoco at the 2013 Academy of Country Music Awards:

Kaley Cuoco is not one to shy away from fashion risks. (Just take a look at that poof!) But this time Cuoco chose a nude lipstick to tone down her already edgy red carpet look. To get a similar look, try Sephora Collection's Rouge Shine Lipstick in Honeymoon, $12.

Remember the most important part is to find the right nude shade for your skin tone. If your skin is fair, opt for a nude color with a slight pink undertone. Try CoverGirl's Lip Perfection Lipstick in Kiss 275, $6.99. If you have darker skin or are quite tan, chose a color with an orange undertone. Try Laura Mercier's HydraTint Lip Balm in Apricot, $20. It's important to get the right nude shade so as not to wash you out (eeep ghost face!). And just because you're sporting a nude lip doesn't mean it shouldn't have a slight touch of color!

Finally, if you're going to go for a nude lip, play up another feature — like your eyes! Nude lips go wonderfully with dark smoky eyes or even fun colorful eyeshadows. Just because your lips are bare, doesn't mean the rest of your beauty look should be!

So go on, get naked! (Again, just with your lips. Clothing is still recommended.)
