Today in what mindblowing spa treatment will they think up next—ahem, vampire facials and fish pedicures, anyone?—women are actually paying aestheticians an upwards of $100 to let snails scuttle around their faces in the name of brighter, glowier skin. Seriously.

Observe the little fellas in action, below! (Also, let's take a moment to give props to the brave reporter who underwent the "procedure" that's making waves in Japan. Bless!)

We've heard of cosmetics companies using snail slime (sorry, "snail secretion filtrate") in products before—apparently that gooey ick is surprisingly packed with proteins, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid, common ingredients used to brighten, tighten, and improve the appearance of aging skin.

But to just skip the whole chemists-scooping-up-snail-slime-and-putting-it-in-your-skin-cream step and jump straight to the source? Is that really the answer? Let's put it to a vote! Tell us, if you were guaranteed healthier-looking skin, would pay someone let snails crawl all over your mug?

Poll: Would you ever get a "live snail facial" in the name of healthier skin?

  • Why not! I'll do anything to get a perfect complexion.
  • I'll leave the weird treatments to Kim Kardashian, thx.
