Get the Look: Brown Smoky Eyes at BCBGMaxAzria

Backstage at BCBGMaxAzria this morning, celebrity makeup artist Val Garland and her Sephora staff created a smoky eye that was soft, subtle, and super-wearable. Even for, yes, the day! The key? Garland swapped stark, club-bustin' black shadow and mascara for cool, chocolate brown tones.

"The look here at BCGB is all about a perfect, beautiful, real girl," said Garland. "She's a little bit outdoorsy. She's quite inspired by the idea of a Kate Moss kind of look. So we did a little bit of a sexy smoke on the eye and lots of beautiful bronzing and highlighting. This time around to make the smoke feel really modern, we're working like chocolately browns as opposed to blacks and a fab chocolately brown mascara. I just think it's a little softer, it doesn't feel so nighttime hard. It's more real and wearable. It's something that suits most women."

To create the look, Garland smudged Sephora's Jumbo Liner 12-Hour Wear Waterproof in "24 Dark Brown Matte" all over the lid as a base, then blended Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in "Bourbon" into the crease.

Stila's Kajal Eye Liner in "Tropaz" — rimmed along the inner eye to make it appear wider and brighter — and Dior's Diorshow Mascara in "Chestnut" finished off the smoky style.
