Kate Middleton Almost Bankrupted THIS Brand

When it comes to boosting brands' sales, Kate Middleton usually has the golden touch. In fact, we'd never heard of the Duchess of Cambridge hurting a label — until today.

Issa London almost went bust after the royal chose their navy blue jersey wrap dress to announce her engagement to Prince William, Vogue UK reports.

"It absolutely sky-rocketed the brand on a global scale, but it was too much," said Issa chairwoman (and daughter of former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed) Camilla Al Fayed. "Demand was so huge the business couldn't cope. If Kate wears a Zara dress, these huge companies have the backing to follow through. Issa was basically run by interns, students and Daniella [Helayel, the label's founder and designer]. There was no business model."

A quick browse of Issa London's website brought up the $793 dress in every color imaginable, including this eggplant shade below, so it looks like they've recovered quite nicely!
