(via Banana Republic)Ever since Catch Me if You Can hit theaters a decade ago, we've dreamed about flying all over the world with scarves tied around our necks and pillbox hats on our heads.
While those outfits don't really exist in the flight attendant wardrobe anymore, Banana Republic answered our prayers when they reinterpreted Virgin America's uniform—with a preppy-trendy twist.
The designs were chosen through an in-house design competition a la Project Runway. Banana Republic designers from different departments were shuffled into teams of six and competed against each other for the chance to make air travel history.
Here's a behind-the-scenes video of the designers in action:
The new uniform lineup includes: leather jackets, trench coats, sleek zip cardigans, and utilitarian shirt dresses and shirts.
Of course, the uniforms wouldn't be complete without the iconic scarves. For those of us who have to stay grounded the majority of the year, Banana Republic will sell some selections from the collection in stores as well!
Here are a few of the clothing pieces you'll see at airport gates near you starting August 8.
***Update: only travel-inspired trenches, aviators, totes, and messenger bags will be available for purchase in Banana Republic stores.
