11. American Beauty
"I guess I could be pretty pissed off about what happened to me, but it's hard to stay mad when there's so much beauty in the world."

Whatever your opinion on the recent controversy surrounding Kevin Spacey, the film itself is lovely and evocative, a poignant reminder to rise above the dark things that happen in our lives. It tells the story of Lester Burnham, a guy who is enamored by his daughter's best friend after suffering a midlife crisis and quitting his job. Although he's ultimately shot and killed, the movie is nowhere near as depressing as it sounds — or maybe it is. Either way, if it doesn't get you out of your head and your own trivial, everyday problems, then we don't know what will.
