What connections do you see between food and acupuncture?
"Diet is a huge part of Chinese medicine — it is one of the foundations for good health. Every food has a taste, temperature, associated meridian, and healing action. In TCM, people have used foods for thousands of years to help harmonize the body. The energetic properties of foods can be potent — medicine and nutrition is one of the primary ways that the Chinese population practices preventative health, heals ailments and stays balanced. Chinese nutrition looks at the energetic properties of foods for their qualities like cooling, drying, or warming. For example, if you had a fever of 104 from a cold or flu, I would prescribe foods that are cooling to clear the heat of the fever. Conversely, if you have chronic loose stool, which, in TCM, represents too much dampness in the spleen or kidney, we will prescribe foods that will dry the damp. When you think about it that way, it just makes perfect sense."
