If I were to sum up my beauty habits in one sentence it would be: when I fall for something, I fall hard. So when it comes to the contents of my vanity, I stick to what I know and love.
I'm all about no muss, no fuss—or at the very least, less muss, less fuss. I've always stuck to the simplest products possible. Whether I was afraid that my seventh grade scrunch would get too gunky, or that my sensitive, pearly-white skin (let's be real, nearly translucent) would get splotchy, dry, and red, SPF, low-key scents, and gentle formulas are the key to my skin and hair’s happiness.
Now, onto the trusty stand-by's that somehow turned the top of my bookcase into a beauty and jewelry counter (exhibit A, below):
Lauren's 10 products I can't live without:
Almay Oil-Free Makeup Remover Pads ($7.99): If there was one thing, and only one thing, that I absolutely, positively, can't travel anywhere without, it's these Almay makeup remover pads. Not only do they come in a convenient circular 2-in-1 package (goodbye cotton pads!), they instantly cool my eye, never burn, and always make my skin feel refreshed and lightweight. Seriously, if you have sensitive skin, especially around your eyes, these pads are the best. They come in full-blown wipes, too.
Bobbi Brown Protective Face Lotion SPF 15 ($48): Confession: thanks to my makeup artist mom who works for Bobbi Brown, I have a major Bobbi Brown obsession. But, even when I try to be unbiased and give other products a test-run, I always come back to BB—especially this moisturizer. I actually look forward to that point in the night when I can take off my makeup, wash my face, and rub this moisturizer on. And, as I said, I am p-a-s-t-y so the SPF is essential for keeping my skin soft and safe!
Dove Go Fresh Cool Essentials Moisturizing Body Wash ($4.49): I have been a Dove girl forever. Ever since Dove's Go Fresh products hit the market—especially the cucumber green tea scent—I've never used anything else. The moisturizing properties are wonderful, but what's even better is the scent. Sweet, subtle, and cucumber (I love the food and the scent equally).
Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Power-Cream Wash ($7.49): This product is one of the only products on the list that's relatively new to my regimen. It's really cooling, and when I use it morning and night my skin actually glows. Plus, it does exactly as promised: controls that acne that unfortunately pops up when I'm stressed out.
Almay Liquid Eyeliner Pen in Black Brown ($7.49): Whenever I can't shell out the cash for my beloved Bobbi Brown I always turn to Almay. Not only are the products hypoallergenic for my sensitive skin, they have really great quality formulas. This eyeliner is my absolute favorite—ever. It's the first eyeliner I've used consistently since I awkward scribbled across my lid in the sixth grade. In pen form, I can get the precision I want, but it's not too liquidy, so I can still easily smudge my liner for a smokier look if I want.
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lipcolor in La Raffinne ($32.50): Up until a year and a half ago, I refused to wear lipstick. I don't really know why, maybe I was scarred from dance recitals past, but I never really felt comfortable wearing it. That is, until I tried Chanel's Rouge Allure Velvet in La Raffinee. It goes on smooth, and doesn't dry up your lips like the colors you used to use for Halloween. Also, the color is perfect for my plump pink lips and pale skin—not too red, and not too pink—it's just in between. A timeless color that never goes out of style!
Bobbi Brown Metallic Eye Shadow in Champagne Quartz ($21): Is it embarrassing to admit I've been using the same eyeshadow on a day-to-day basis since high school? Bobbi Brown's champagne quartz metallic eyeshadow is the perfect amount of shimmer and color for a natural, awakened look. Whenever I'm sleepy, I pop on one brush's worth of this shadow into the corner of my eye and boom! I'm awake. It also has a pink undertone to it, so it doesn't look look too gold.
Marc Jacobs "Daisy" Eu de Toilette ($65): I actually really dislike perfume (or anything heavily scented in general). But, for some reason, Marc Jacob's Daisy makes me want to spray it on and around me all of the time. It's just the right amount of sweet, but still smells light. Plus, the bottle is super-cute (packaging counts people!).
Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat ($9.95): As you can see above, I have a huge nail polish problem (and that's not even close to a quarter of it!). To keep my nails looking fresh and glossy, I compulsively apply Seche Vite's top coat. It's incredible—I can do ten rounds of dish-washing with no chips! There's always a bottle stashed away in my purse.
Pro Beauty Tools Wave Wand ($29.99): So I know this is technically a tool and not a product, but I had to include it. Those who know me, also know I have majorrrrr hair envy—seriously, my hair is so fine, and has pretty much maintained the same style for the past ten years, that I’ll do anything to make it look more voluminous. Cue my waver. Every day, in just five minutes, my head of measly red locks is transformed into a bouncy mass of shiny waves. I love the flexibility of its styling, too. If I want to look low-key, I can ever-so-subtly kink my locks. If I'm going out, I give each strand a good wraparound. Just be careful not to burn your hand!
Now onto my makeup bag...
The contents of my makeup bag for whenever I'm on-the-go (let's be real, always) are just as no muss no fuss as my full-on beauty regimen—here are the products I never go anywhere without (from left to right):
Like I said above, I love Almay's Liquid Eyeliner Pen in Black Brown ($7.49) so much, I own two of them and always keep one in my bag! After staring at a computer screen all day, re-application is completely necessary to liven up my tired eyes. Along those lines, I also have two (I told you guys I fall hard...) compacts of Bobbi Brown Metallic Eye Shadow in Champagne Quartz ($21) for the same reason. Whether I'm going to an event or happy hour with friends, a a shimmery dusting of champagne shadow is just the wake up call I need.
I love mascara so much that I always carry around two tubes: Almay's Get Up & Grow mascara ($7.99) for everyday volume and Bobbi Brown's Extreme Party Mascara ($24) for when I really, well, want to party.
I'm not big on foundation or face makeup, but Almay's Smart Shade liquid makeup ($13.99) is just the ticket when I'm a little bit blotchy. Plus, it has SPF!
Lastly, for the days I don't feel like wearing lipstick but want a pretty pink plump, Bobbi Brown's High Shimmer Lip Gloss gives me that rejuvinating sparkle I need ($23; and as you can see, I love it so much its already half empty).
Well, there you have it! Woof, that's a lot of stuff. Do any of my favorites match up with yours? What are your 10 essentials? Let us know in the comments!
