Things I May or May Not Spend My Money On This Spring (Clare Vivier)

After cleaning out my closet this weekend, I realized something. A least a quarter of my spring wardrobe consists of eye-searing vintage dresses hand-hemmed to varying degrees of inappropriateness. So, I should probably buy a few things to tone all of those Clinton-era mini florals and '70s paisleys down, right? Starting with...

A structured bag.

I've been carrying my stuff around in a leather backpack all winter, '90s teen runaway style, which is fine, but maybe it's time to upgrade. I love Clare Vivier's tomato red duffle. You can even get it monogrammed, if that's your thing. (It's totally my thing.)

I can't even think about sandals yet — it's 40 degrees out! — so I'm going to focus on another spring staple, lightweight flats. I already have loads of oxfords and tasseled loafers, so I kind of want to try something a bit more feminine this year. Like D'Orsays. This suede Chinese Laundry version is the perfect starter pair.

I'm pretty bored with nail art, but I've never really been into the classic red or pale pink polishes, either. I think this is going to be my Spring of White Nails. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics' polishes are super opaque, which is what I'm going for.

The green army jacket I've been wearing for the past few springs has seen better days, and I really want to pick up a neutral trench to alternate with it. Bonus: when worn closed and belted over short dresses, trench coats make people wonder "Is she, or is she not going to flash me?" I probably won't pull the trigger on this spendy A.P.C. style, but I'll be on the lookout for something similar.

Every striped dress I've ever owned has met a tragic fate — bleach, grass stains, sangria accidents — but I'm ready to give it one more shot with this Saturday shift.

I'm not much of a bracelet person — probably because I can't deal with them slapping my keyboard as I write — but I want one or two delicate ones this season. Maybe it's because I wear about a million little rings most days, and my wrists feel lonely.

This Digby and Iona arrow cuff is a pretty option, as is this Catbird bracelet.

And this Venessa Arizaga "I Love Tacos" bracelet, too.

Uh-oh. This may have been my gateway item, because all of a sudden I want...

MORE bright dresses, which I promised myself I wouldn't buy. Like this tie dye Wren number.

And destroyed denim, which looks dumb on me, but which I'm strangely attracted to anyway. Like these ASOS jeans.

And a star projector, because why not.
