L'Wren Scott for Banana Republic Is Happening

L'Wren Scott is about to get a lot more affordable, thanks to the designer's upcoming collaboration with Banana Republic — a surprising move for a few reasons.

First, Banana Republic usually teams up with bridge brands who share the retailer's preppy, work-appropriate aesthetic (Milly, Trina Turk, Issa). And secondly, even L'Wren Scott's simplest designs fall in the four-figure range. The designer (who is dating Mick Jagger, by the way) sent 23-karat-gold-covered pumps down the runway, after all.

“She’s much more couture than we’d ever be,” Simon Kneen, creative director and executive vice president of design of Banana Republic told WWD. “She would bring jewels as inspiration for buttons. It was interesting for us to take that and make it much more affordable.”

Images of the holiday collection aren't out just yet, but we do know that it consists of 50 pieces, priced from $38.50 to $198, “ranging from sequin party dresses and bejewelled cardigans, to feminine, tailored jeans, lace dresses and pencil skirts.” Prints will play a big part in the lineup, and Scott created three exclusive motifs for the collab — a lip print, a peony print, and a candy stripe.

And while L'Wren has been approached many times by mass market brings looking to partner with her, she chose Banana Republic because it’s “somewhere [she] used to shop.”

Let's all browse L'Wren Scott's latest runway collection in the gallery below, and imagine what her (probably not 23-karat-gold-covered) BR collab will look like.
