In the world of design, things seem pretty clear cut—architects design buildings and fashion designers design, uh, fashions. But once in a while you get a crossover creative mind who excels in both—like architect Julian Hakes who's just launched his first footwear collection in the United States.
The British Hakes isn't the first architect to take his aesthetic expertise to the world of womenswear—Tom Ford made the jump from facades to frocks decades ago after completing his architecture degree and realizing he'd rather create clothes. And even though Hakes is new on our shores, his work has already garnered praise abroad—and a celebrity following. Julian Hakes shoes have been work by celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow.
What do you think of this sculptural Julian Hakes shoe, above? It's like a work of art, isn't it? Would you wear it?
