Vivienne Westwood to Give Virgin Atlantic's Staff Makeovers

Virgin Atlantic's famous red uniforms are about to get a makeover — courtesy of Vivienne Westwood. The designer (and longtime friend of the airline's president Richard Branson) is debuting new looks for over 7,500 staff members, including cabin crew, pilots, and Virgin Holidays employees, this July.

According to Branson, it's been 13 years since Virgin Atlantic's outfits have had an upgrade (Banana Republic designed uniforms for Virgin America last year).

And, while the new uniforms won't include bondage straps or safety pins, they'll still be very Viviennne Westwood. “My clothes have always got a very strong dynamic rapport with the body–they are very body conscious, they help you to look glamorous, more hourglass, more woman,” the designer said. “I design things to help people to hopefully express their personality.”

Women's looks will include blouses with origami ruffles down the front, tulip skirts, and slightly cropped jackets with nipped-in waists.
While men will wear dapper burgundy suits.
Can you imagine someone serving you your in-flight bloody Mary in one of these looks? It's enough to make you (almost) reconsider your giant travel hoodie.
