If you've ever watched The Rachel Zoe Project (yes, we're obsessed), you know Rachel Zoe lives for all things '70s-fashion. Maybe that's why she decided to take one of the decade's most famous garments—the kaftan—out for a spin in Malibu this weekend. Doesn't the celeb stylist totally nail the beach-to-shopping look? We think so.
But we get it, kaftans can be scary. Because let's be real, they're not always easy to pull off. Unless you follow these simple rules for pulling off a kaftan in style.
1. Add a belt. If you're like most us, you're not rail thin like Rachel. So to define a waist with a baggy caftan, simply add a belt!
2. Length is key. Follow Rachel's lead by finding a kaftan that goes just below the knee. Something longer or all the way to the floor will look like you're drowning in fabric.
3. Be mindful of colors. Don't go too crazy with an all-over print. Something subtle, like Rachel's black and white pattern here will be much more flattering.
So what do you think? Ready to take the plunge and rock a Zoe-inspired kaftan this summer? Here are three stylish picks we're loving right now.
Melissa Odabash "Shirley" crochet caftan, $271 at Net-a-Porter
Lov Project "Diamond" caftan, $180 at Les Pommettes
Karma "Capri" printed katan, $220 at My-Wardrobe
