Late breaking news this Friday: French media is confirming that Christopher Kane will replace Nicolas Ghesquiere as the creative head of Balenciaga. The 30-year-old Scottish designer is slated to start December 1st.
Ghesquiere's departure from the fashion house following a 15-year critically-acclaimed tenure as Balenciaga's artistic director left many industry insiders scratching their heads—surprised not only by the seemingly abrupt dissolution of a longstanding creative partnership, but also guessing at who would be next in line to helm the storied fashion house.
Kane, 30, was born in Newarthill, Scotland, and completed both his BA and MA studies at Central Saint Martins in London. He apprenticed at both Russell Sage and Giles Deacon and, since 2009, has collaborated with Donatella Versace on the Versus collection. His own eponymous label, Christopher Kane, was founded by Kane and his sister Tammy Kane in 2006.
What do you think about Kane's appointment to helm Balenciaga? Are you a fan of his work? We're 100 percent excited to see what Christopher Kane can bring to the house. It couldn't have happened to a nicer and more talented guy. Congratulations!
