Fashion designer Michelle Smith unveiled her spring collection for Milly Minis this week with a runway show full of pint-sized fashions—and fashionistas!
Not just any kid models (kodels?) strutted the pseudo-catwalk at the brand's Upper East Side boutique, though. The designer teamed up with the cast from Broadway's hit musical Annie for the line's first-ever fashion show. Spoiler alert: Cuteness ahead.
Tyrah Skye Odoms (Kate), an 8-year-old Beyonce fan, chose this outfit because she loves swimsuits and the beach:
And 12-year-old Madi Rae DiPietro (July) loved this raincoat because it still showed off her dress:
10-year-old Junah Jang (Tessie) hates dresses but adores bows:
And last but not least, 11-year-old Lilla Crawford (Orphan Annie!) gave Shirley Temple a run for her money in this bubble peplum dress:
After we recovered from the adorableness overload—we're talking some seriously sassy poses!—we caught up with Smith backstage to chat more about the collaboration, her favorite musicals, and more:
StyleBistro: How did the idea for this collaboration come about?
Michelle Smith: I've always loved Annie. It just seemed like a great synergy for the launch of my Milly Minis collection to do something with the cast of Annie! I remember when it first came out when I was a child. I still have the original cast album!
SB: What other musicals are some of your all-time favorites?
MS: I loved Les Mis, Phantom of the Opera, and A Chorus Line. I studied ballet for about 13 years, so I love theater and dancing. It's definitely influenced my work. Like this dress I'm wearing could pass for a tu-tu!

SB: Of all the characters in Annie, which character do you relate with most?
MS: I definitely can relate to, who's the secretary, Daddy Warbucks' secretary? Grace. Grace Farrell. She's so polished! I would aspire to be like her. She's so sophisticated and perfect, who wouldn't want to be her? She's always put-together—grace under pressure!
SB: Speaking of being under pressure, one of our favorite ways to unwind is a good ol' jam sesh. In the spirit of musicals, if you had to pick any one karaoke song to rock out to, what would it be?
MS: Empire State of Mind because I love New York! We had a karaoke party for our Milly holiday party and that was tons of fun. It was such a good choice!
SB: Did you sing?
MS: Oh yeah! Of course! I can't really call it singing. More like screaming. It was the best Christmas party we ever had. It was so much fun. Dinner parties are hard, you've got to do an activity. With karaoke everyone gets up and lets loose and has a good time.
SB: Last but not least, since we are here for Milly Minis and there are a ton of celebrity babies on the way this year, which mini A-Lister are you dying to outfit?
MS: It's got to be Kate Middleton's baby. I'm so excited! I can't wait to see if she's going to have a boy or a girl.
Let's be honest, who can?
