Fashion Trend Report: Pastel Lace

Fashion Trend Report: Pastel Lace(Source: Imax Tree; Elie Saab, Burberry Prorsum; Marchesa, Wes Gordon)As spring unfolds and hemlines rise, it's maddening to think of dressing in heavy fabrics the color of soiled snow. We'd rather mimic the shades of tulip blossoms and move with gentle rustles as delicate as the breeze.

Pastel lace showed up all over the spring runways as an answer to such a desire. At Elie Saab, the breezy, feminine fabric came in the form of pink English Lille and was transformed into dresses, tops, and rompers cut in far-from-matronly shapes. At Burberry Prorsum, it dominated most ensembles. Below, it adorned the sleeves of a lilac trench coat and above, as in many iterations, it wrapped around svelte hips in midi-skirts paired with punchy sandals and gorgeous overcoats.

A single hue kept separates from feeling fussy. Over at Wes Gordon, pastel lace was draped atop or under unexpected pieces. Below, an unlined lace skirt pairs perfectly with an extra-long oxford, a modern play on masculine/feminine dressing that looks utterly on point. Above, it adds another element to a simply cut T-shirt. We love the icy pastels at work here in pale, pale blue and washed-out mint.

Off the runway, we'd pair a set of sweet pink shorts, such as these from Net-a-Porter ($300), with a simple white tee and killer sandals to keep things cool. For dressier occasions, a pale blush Club Monaco skirt ($150) would do the trick. We could picture it worn with a voluminous white button-up and a statement clutch throughout the spring and summer.
