Boston
If you love history, Boston is definitely where you'll want to go for the Fourth. In the morning, the Declaration of Independence is read from the balcony of the Old State House just like it was read out to the city in 1776, bringing the celebration full circle.

After that, there's plenty to do around the city, from live performances to firework displays. And if you want to do something a little more touristy, check out Travel + Leisure's guide and visit Paul Revere’s house, explore the historic downtown, and find a good spot by the waterfront to catch the finale of the fireworks show. You won't want to miss it: It's played to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, and ends with cannon fire and church bells ringing throughout the whole city.
