Welcome to Nashville: 11 Things to See and Do in Music City

Looking for the perfect vacay destination that provides endless activities, houses the utmost in talent and musical history and that won't break the bank? Nashville is the place to go! We caught up with homegrown Nashvillian, Sweet Ladi Jane blogger Rebecca Sweet - who also happens to be the wife of Little Big Town's Phillip Sweet - and she filled us in on everything Nashville.

1. Favorite thing to do on date night:

"Go out! Ha! My favorite thing to do on a date night is go to The Honeysuckle for dinner, and then listen to live music with an after dinner drink at GRAYS On Main. The Honeysuckle has great oysters and steak that you cook on a salt block. They also have a beautiful charcuterie bar. GRAYS has the largest stage in Nashville, and a cocktail named “Sweet Ladi Jane” in honor of the day I launched the blog!"

2. Favorite local coffee shop + best coffee-drink:

"Mamas Java is my favorite coffee shop. They roast their own coffee and are locally owned. When I go there, I get a sausage, egg, and cheese on a toasted plain bagel with their house blend coffee. I also love their decor, modern farmhouse is my kind of thing. Occasionally, they will have music nights there with local singer-songwriters. They will have cold beer and you can bring your own wine."

3. Best restaurant for southern comfort food + favorite dish on the menu:

"The best restaurant for southern comfort food is Whiskey Kitchen. They have the best fried pickle chips with homemade ranch dressing. I literally crave them! My usual main dish there is their fried chicken wrap. It is a wrap with their fried chicken, homemade ranch, lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, and bacon. I also have been known to get their fried green tomato BLT. You can’t go wrong with Whiskey Kitchen."

4. Best hole-in-the-wall for a beer:

"I love a hole-in-the wall bar. There is just something about them. McCabe's Pub is one of my favorites. Not only do they have cold beer, they have a fantastic cheeseburger wrap. It’s so mouth watering. It’s ground beef rolled up in a flour tortilla with pickles, red onions, mayo, mustard, and American cheese. The cheese is melted into the ground beef on the griddle, which I think is the key to it’s deliciousness."

5. Favorite shop for antiquing:

"City Farmhouse is one of my favorite antique shops. Kim, the owner, is the sweetest person and great at finding treasures. A lot of the pieces I have are from her pop up shop that she holds twice a year. Also, she has a store front inside The Factory in Franklin. Next year, she is publishing a coffee table book that features a couple of rooms in my house."

6. Favorite clothing boutique:

"My favorite clothing boutique is Hemline. The girls in there are so incredibly sweet and I always thoroughly enjoy myself there. They carry my favorite brands, like Wildfox, Jeffery Campbell, J Brand, Alexis, and House of Harlow. I love following local boutiques (Hemline of course) on Instagram, too!"

7. Favorite hotel + favorite hotel bar:

"The Hermitage Hotel is one of my favorite hotels. It is such a huge part of Nashville history, and has a beautiful bar called The Oak room. We often go there after a show at TPAC."

8. Favorite place to find home decor:

"Cadeau is my favorite home decor store. Frannie, the owner, is one of my favorite people. Like me, she is a native Nashvillian, apparently that is becoming rare… Cadeau has everything- antiques, bar ware, furniture, coffee table books… You name it, and I bet they have it."

"One of my favorite pieces I have purchased from her are these beautiful wall sconces that once hung in the original BMI building in New York. They were a part of Frances Preston’s estate. I made my dad a little jealous of this purchase. He thinks I bought them out from under him. Ha!"

9. Favorite place to go to relax:

Rebecca and Phillip Sweet at Radnor Lake.

"My ultimate favorite place to relax is my back porch. My favorite local public place is Radnor Lake. I love walking this beautiful park with my husband, Phillip. It’s so peaceful and relaxing. We will drop our little girl off at school, and head straight there. There is one trail, called the ridge, that is high on a hill and over looks the lake. I love going up there in the Fall and the Spring to see the leaves change. Phillip and I have woven many of our dreams there."

10. Best salon + spa:

"My favorite place for a blow out is The Dry House. Ali and her team know how to make a girl look and feel her best. I have even taken my best friend there when she needed a little pick me up. We had a ball sitting there, getting our hair done, and drinking champagne. My favorite spa is Escape. This place is beautiful and peaceful. I am not sure there is another spa like it in the world."

"If you are looking for a quick facial or waxing, my sister-in-law has a great salon in East Nashville called Wax Nashville. They have great all natural products. Ask for Brook when you book your appointment."

11. Best spot to go hear up-and-coming musicians + best spot to find big-time country stars performing on a smaller, more intimate stage:

"The best spot to go hear up-and-coming artists is Whiskey Jam at Losers. It’s a small venue, with big talent. You can even occasionally catch a big-time star there. In the past, I have witnessed Miranda Lambert and Phillip Sweet of Little Big Town sing a duet. Definitely a fun country bar, right off the historical music row."
