3 Party-Perfect Hair Ideas to Obsess Over (and Steal for Your Next Big Shindig!)

July might be winding down, but summer's far from over. We've still got about six solid weeks of warm-weather—okay, HOT weather—fun ahead of us. Like August weddings, last-minute vacations, and early-Friday happy hours, to name a few.
Great news, right? Well there's a teensy downside: this means there are still six more weeks in which it's just too darn hot to wear your hair down at these said summery get-togethers. But—back to the good news—we've been keeping our eyes laser-focused on the party circuit and spotted three totally wearable (and copyable!) looks at last night's 2013 TCA Summer Party.
Read on, and party on, Wayne ladies.
Style to Try #1: A braided updo like Sarah Michelle Gellar's
Perfect for post-beach parties or days where you (woops) skipped a wash, this winding braid instantly makes gritty hair look elegant.
Start by raking the right half of hair with your hands straight back, and French braiding in-ward toward the center of your head. When you're ready for the braid to switch direction, pull in pieces from the left to create a side-winding effect. Lock everything in place with U-pins and your favorite medium-hold hairspray. (Hint: If not washing your hair beforehand isn't an option, try rinsing with Bumble and Bumble's Surf Shampoo and Conditioner, $49, for seabreezy texture.)
Style to Try #2: A tousled side-braid like Amanda Setton's
Naturally curly? No problem. This piece-y side braid enhances your gene-given texture by playing up the effortless, purposely-out-of-place construction. Add to the undone look even more by running styling cream, like Ouidad's Wave Create Texture Taffy ($23), through damp hair before drying.
Style to Try #3: A sophisticated ponytail like Rachel Bilson's
Okay, okay, so we know the ponytail isn't the most groundbreaking hairstyle in the world, but Rachel Bilson—she of all things cool and carefree—has gone with the look at a few different red carpets lately, so hear us out.
Not only does the classic style keep hair off your face and your neck, it gives you the chance to spotlight your makeup (like Bilson did here with her subtle teal liner) or a pair of killer earrings. Make the style seem intentional and not rolled-out-of-bed-y by creating a sharp middle part, slicking down flyaways, and securing your elastic low at the nape of your neck.
Finish with a spritz of strong hold hairspray (we love L'Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray, $14.99) to keep the look sleek and refined.
Tell us, which hairstyle will you be trying at your next shindig? We're sort of partial to the easy, breezy side-braid! Sound off with your pick in the comments.
