Braid of the Day: How to DIY Laura Trott's Look

British cyclist Lara Trott won two gold medals in the London 2012 Olympics, but had there been a competition for the fiercest braid, this lovely athlete would've definitely taken home three.

We're so accustomed to seeing Trott with her blonde locks tucked beneath a helmet, our jaws nearly dropped when she stepped out on the red carpet at Radio 1's Teen Awards 2012. The 20-year-old star traded in her biking duds for a metallic woven dress and sky-high peep-toe pumps.

What really made this fit-and-flare number shine, though, was Trott's super-teased, messy-and-I-don't-care side-braid. Here's another close-up of the daring 'do:

To get the tousled look:

  • Begin teasing the hair at the crown of your head and pull everything to one side, preferably whichever way your bangs part. Snugly secure the teased heap of hair with a hair tie.

  • Next, separate your locks into three thick strands and loosely (key word) intertwine the pieces. Let stray strands stick out as you go.

  • Finish off the braid with an itty-bitty elastic, then twist a section of your ends around it. Secure the knot with a bobby pin, and you're done!
