How can we start guiding girls as toddlers and preschoolers to develop healthy body images?
"Children are born with a healthy body image! We are the ones that teach them they are flawed, so it is more about us protecting their healthy body image vs. us having to teach them. My daughter is 18 months old and loves her belly. She rubs it and laughs at her belly button in the mirror because she has zero self-awareness when it comes to what her body 'should look like.' I make a point to tell her how much I love her belly and then I show her mine, and then her Dad shows his belly, and she loves it. I want my daughter to grow up in a home where bodies aren't a focus but in this important developmental time, I want to protect her innate self-love and celebrate her body and my own."
