17. First Woman to Compete in the Indy 500, 1977
Janet Guthrie was the first woman to qualify and compete in both the Indianapolis 500 and Daytona 500. She competed in three Indys and finished as high as ninth in the race. Guthrie's helmet and race suit can now be found in the Smithsonian Institution. She was also one of the first to be elected into the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame.
