17. Stick to a consistent after school routine
If afternoons and/or bedtime are rough in your home, set a goal to follow the same routine each day. Sit with your child and talk about the order and duration of each activity after school.

For example, setting a routine with snack then homework then rest or play is a good way to make sure all the essentials are met. Decide which days and times they'll shower and do chores. As hard as it can sometimes feel for parents, kids thrive on expected routines no matter their age.
