Over the last 10 years or so, your career has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Reflecting from where you are now, what would you do differently?
One of them is holding leaders accountable. I hired a lot of executives and knew that, in some cases, they had careers longer than I’d been alive. I thought they would write their job descriptions as they went along, and diagnose the business and what it needed. I didn’t realize how close I should have stayed to that. Also, I used to think that hustle hustle hustle was the way, like if you’re not walking as fast as me through the office, why am I paying you? And that’s just such an outdated mode of thinking in the work place, and it’s not something millennials will tolerate — it’s not how they want to live their lives. Lately, I’ve begun craving self-care more, and investing in myself so I can preform at my best. I was in constant burnout at Nasty Gal, and that really doesn’t do anybody, or the company, any good.
