Country darling Taylor Swift took a slight departure from her usual sweetheart style, arriving on the red carpet at the 2011 Met Gala in a darker, stronger look. Of course key elements were still in tact—those curls, the bold red lip—but Taylor's Costume Institute look seems to signal a sexier, more grown-up fashionista.
Taylor Swift hit the Met Gala in a custom J.Mendel gown. In dramatic color combination of gunmetal and peach, the one-shoulder gown had the requisite sparkle and frill sans the usual saccharine effect. When paired with a smoky eye, Taylor's look has a sense of mystery straight from film noir.
Hollywood has the Oscars, New York has the Met Gala! Each year, the world's most fashionable gather in their finest to toast the industry's epic talents. This year, the gala is in honor of the late Alexander McQueen. A curated selection of his iconic designs are on display until July 31, 2011. The 2011 Met Gala was held on May 2, 2011 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
For fashion mavens, there is no event more anticipated than the Met's Costume Institute Gala (well, except for maybe the royal wedding!). But speaking of royals, this year's gala is a tribute to the late Alexander McQueen. See the best and worst dressed fashionistas at the Met Gala 2011!
