Get the Look: Bright Eyes at Nanette Lepore

Bright, colorful eye makeup keeps popping up on the runway—Nicole Miller showcased futuristic lilacs, Donna Karan used an electric fuchsia, and, at Nanette Lepore we saw powerful pastels in salmon, turquoise, and lavender.

We chatted with MAC makeup artist Max Delorme backstage for advice on how to get the bold, bright look on our own—without looking like, you know, an easter egg exploded on our lids.

Step 1: Start by applying MAC's Kohl Power Eye Pencil in "Feline" on the root of the upper lashes. Then trace over the line with Penultimate Eye Liner for a black liquid finish.

Step 2: Gently smudge the liners together with a Q-tip to create a soft, smoky line.

Step 3: Using MAC Pro Paint Sticks—Delorme mixed "Pure White" with "Rich Purple" to get the high-voltage lavendar hue—blend the color all over your eyelid while making sure the smudged black liner still pops through.

Step 4: Curl your lashes to give your fringe some added oomph. And voila!

Expert tip: According to Delorme, the key to keeping the look powerful and sophisticated (instead of cutesie) is to leave the liner a bit messy. "It should look like the girl doesn't know anything about makeup," he said.

Sounds simple enough, right?
