For such a small item, bandanas sure do pack a lot of punch. In fact, two bandana-wearing icons come to mind: Tupac and Rosie the Riveter. While it might seem odd to lump a legendary rapper and a symbol of feminism together, the truth is they share one thing in common: a tough character. It comes as no surprise then, that the accessory has gained popularity among celebrities looking to add a standout accent to her outfit.
Bandanas are most often worn tied into a headband and they even work on short hair, such as Rihanna's pixie cut and Zendaya Coleman's sleek lob.
Rita Ora added a bandana to top off her sporty black-and-white outfit.

Miley Cyrus even matched her bandana (by Chanel, no less!) with a leather dress.(Source: Instagram) Finally, Taylor Swift demonstrated the versatility of bandanas. While the accessory certainly can channel some tough-girl chic, the right color can also echo '50s Hollywood glam.
This trend is particularly fitting for summer since it's a stylish way to keep hair out of your face. We scoped out some bandana styles to shop now. You can cheat with Forever 21's style, already pre-made into a headband. Or, you can tie it up yourself using bandana scarves from Urban Outfitters, Madewell and J.Crew (the site has even more patterns and colors). Your best bet, however, is probably your local 99-cent store.
