9. Penelope
Penelope, long-suffering wife to Greek hero Odysseus of Homer's epic poems, Iliad and The Odyssey, was a hero in her own right for staying faithful to her wandering husband for so long. Fair Penelope refused the hand of many a suitor during the ten years it took Odysseus to fight the Trojan War, battle monsters like the Cyclops, and finally make it back to her.
