According to a 2016 Marist Poll, 73 percent of Americans believe in soulmates. And, if that wasn't a bit surprising, get this: more men (74 percent) than women (71 percent), truly believe that there really is only one person out there for them. You know, "The One," as Hollywood has labeled it. 

While believing in The One is lovely and romantic, it can also be very dangerous. So before you let yourself get sucked into fairy tales, consider this instead: Believing in soulmates can do more harm than good.
