Prabal Gurung Resort 2012
Prabal Gurung's sixth collection has proven to show yet another side of the multi-faceted designer. While Fall's runway was rife with red gowns, airy chiffons and Gurung's continued romance with feathers, Resort 2012's offerings are aimed at the urban tomboy. The sexy, vibrant, urban tomboy.

Androgynous t-shirts, crisp button-ups, preppy cardigans and school boy shorts are covered with mixtures of enchanting rose prints, bold polka-dots and colorful stripes. The collection transitions into dresses with minimalist silhouettes ranging from drop-waist silk shifts to retro fit-and-flares. The focus is kept on the unlikely print combinations and vivid color-blocking—a trend that continues to pervade department stores and upcoming designer lines.

As with any Gurung show, texture is not left to the wayside: a track jacket bodice saturated with feathers, a strapless frock adorned with fluffy rosettes, a cocktail dress masked in dégradé sequins and a heavily embroidered ombré boatneck sheath. A taste of classic Oscar de la Renta influence comes through in Gurung's taffeta pieces, particularly the floor length hot pink number with a black dotted waistband. Dramatic black-and-white leather ankle-wrap heels paired with every look, however, reminds us of modernity—and the playful contradictions and aesthetic juxtapositions that are signature PG.
