14. WWII Siren Suits
In Europe, running to the neighborhood's bomb shelter during the middle of the night during an air raid was almost a weekly occurrence - and as you would expect, fashion found a way to make its way even into war time bunkers. Since the underground shelters were often times dusty and dirty, people wanted to protect their clothes with overall coverings - but that didn't mean women had to settle for drab mechanic smocks. Enter the invention of Siren Suits: Pant smocks that had stylish detailing like puffed shoulders, bell bottomed legs and a sleek and fitted hoods.
