9. Be prepared to pump
Pumping is a common solution for building supply and helping your milk "come in." Many lactation consultants will advise pumping after feedings during the first week to encourage the body to make milk.

Every woman is different, so work with a professional to determine whether this is necessary. After all, pumping when you have a decent supply may cause your body to make too much milk, so it's definitely a balancing act.

Bonus tip: A hand pump is an inexpensive (and often easier!) method than an electric pump if you're debating which to buy first.
