2. Pay Yourself First
Say you got your paycheck this afternoon, and you're already eyeing some jumpsuit on sale or an upgrade for your laptop. Before you cartwheel your way to the checkout counter, pay yourself first. This means you figure out your monthly budget on bills, food, and other necessities, and then earmark a certain amount that you should put into savings, no matter what. 

To really commit to that amount you can set up an automatic monthly transfer into your savings account, and whatever is left over is your play money. That way you'll never go over budget and eat into your savings, because your savings get tucked away first thing.
