Charleston, South Carolina
Experience southern charm without the heat by hitting up Charleston during the fall. You can still wear pretty summer dresses, but you won't sweat through the material by the afternoon.

That and there are so many fall-inspired things to do there in October. You can go pumpkin picking in Legare Pumpkin Patches, which has been running since the 1700s! You can also do the Fall Tour of Homes, History & Architecture, which lets you walk into houses of the south's creme de le creme, letting you see how the other half lived. There's also a RumFest, which will let you become a pirate for a night, and there are weekly historic ghost tours for those who want to get into the Halloween mood.
