Kansas City, Missouri
Nicknamed "Paris on the Plains," this Midwestern city isn't part of any "flyover" territory. Infused with art, you can now either do a self guided walking tour to spot all the city's murals, or head over to  the Crossroads Arts District to check out their 70-some galleries.

Afterwards, pop into Hickory Street for some epic thrift and vintage shopping, and nip by Le Fou Flea while you're there, which is a four-story warehouse flea market.

After soaking in all the creativity, it's time to eat. Known for its burnt ends barbecue — which are the flavorful bits of meat cut from the "point" half of a smoked brisket — one of the best places to try the staple dish is at Fiorella’s Jack Stack. As for drinks, head over to West Bottoms, an industrial neighborhood that draws a more young, urban crowd.
