Beacon, New York
Only an hour outside of Manhattan, the 20,000 person town of Beacon isn't a place that blimps up on many people's maps. But it's the home of the renowned contemporary art museum Dia:Beacon, (which is housed in the former Nabisco box factory,) and has attracted a hoard of artists, filmmakers, writers, and designers, turning it into a hip and underground cultural hub.

If you're there over the weekend, be sure to pop by the Beacon Flea Market to hunt for vintage treasures, then head over to Beacon Bread for lunch for some Blue Boar grilled cheese sandwiches.
