2018: Aly Raisman And The U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team Come Forward As The Brave Sexual Abuse Survivors They Are
The U.S. women's gymnastics team made headlines for more than Olympic gold medals this year. Olympians Aly Raisman, Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, and McKayla Maroney were four of more than 150 (!) women who came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse against the USA Gymnastics team doctor, Larry Nassar.

Watching Aly Raisman's video testimony detailing his abuse of her — something that went on for years — surpasses mere bravery; it's something else entirely. It's moving, inspiring, heartbreaking, and poignant; and her account was one of many, far too many similar stories.

For me personally, and I'm sure for many others, the testimony brought tears to my eyes. And if there's something positive to be gleaned from the entire situation, it's that Nassar has finally been locked behind bars, after pleading guilty to seven counts of sexual assault of minors. This monstrous man is currently serving a life sentence — 40 to 175 years — in a Michigan state prison.
