Lucille Ball And Vivian Vance
During a time when female comedians were rare, the two women weren't just co-stars but tight-knit friends. Ball gave Vance her first big break by casting her as Ethel Mertz, but the two pushed each other to be better, funnier, and more iconic than they would alone.

They also leaned on each other emotionally: Vance had an abusive husband that would break her down both emotionally and physically, and Ball eventually convinced her friend to leave him.

The two were close to the end of their lives, where Vance one said, "We fought like sisters and made up like sisters. We adored each other's company."
