Artemisia Gentileschi
Artemisia Gentileschi (1593 – 1656) was an Italian Baroque painter that is considered to be one of the most accomplished painters from her time. She often drew powerful women in violent depictions, slaying their enemies and exacting revenge. Many attributed this career theme to her sexual assault, where at the age of 19 she was raped by her much older teacher.

Gentileschi is renowned for how convincingly she depicted the female figure, how she handled and built color, and she is thought to be one of the most progressive painters from her era.
