4. Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana
According to legend, Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana is one of America's most haunted sites. Like, ever. If that's not already enticing enough to those seeking creepy-crawly travel destinations, get this: While there are at least 12 mysterious ghost stories circulating the plantation (it was even built on sacred Native American burial grounds... I mean, come on), the legend of Chloe is the most prominent.

Chloe was a slave who had her ear chopped off by her master after she was supposedly caught eavesdropping. Chloe then plotted her revenge by poisoning a birthday cake and killing two of the master's daughters, but was hung by her fellow slaves in retribution. Good old Chloe was reportedly caught on camera by the National Geographic Explorer film crew in the early '90s –– and apparently other spirits wandering the plantation lands have been caught on camera as well.

Learn more about the plantation –– and even book a stay –– on the official website.
