18. Edinburgh Vaults, Edinburgh, Scotland
As one of the most haunted cities in the UK, it makes (eerie) sense that the vaults beneath Edinburgh, Scotland would be just as ominous. The Edinburgh Vaults, a series of chambers located beneath the arches of South Bridge, date back to the late 1700s, when they were occupied by the poor, diseased, helpless, and criminal.

Though it is no longer a dank and lawless underground city, the Vaults nonetheless remain known for their darkness, and are said to be frequented by the spirits of those who lived and died in squalor.
