When you have a slight, flawless, enviable frame (like most leading ladies), you can pretty much get away with wearing absolutely anything you want. These days, it seems as if the one garment everyone is clamoring to don to a high-profile event has somehow made it's way out of the boudoir and onto the red (or purple or blue) carpet: The corset. (Reimagined into a gorgeous, glamorous gown, natch.)
While underwear reconstructed into stunning outwear may not be a concept that works well in everyday life, it's certainly a viable outfit option for a formal yet fun nght out. And we can certainly see why this rather risqué trend is gaining traction; corsets are the best way to play up your feminine curves by slimming your waist and accentuating your hips.
Take Selena Gomez for instance. Her corset peeked through a cutout gown (with a hip-high slit!) trimmed with rhinestones. Laura Bell Bundy's lacy knee-length frock was tempered with a mesh overlay, while Kerry Washington's strapless midi corset was covered in delicate chantilly lace. But it was Jennifer Morrison who dared to take the look to the max—she paired her corset with a sheer floor-length skirt that left very little to the imagination. (You have to admit, she looked great, though!)
