4. Merlot
Merlot is rich with dark fruit flavors like a Cabernet Sauvignon, yet is softer and a tad more fruity-sweet. 

Merlot goes great with just about anything, but specifically with tender red meats, herbs, and mushrooms. It can also be paired with meatier fishes such as grilled swordfish and tuna, as well as meat with dark fruit sauces.
