There are few sartorial conundrums trickier than figuring out what to wear to a job interview; and, of course, depending on the gig and the industry, successful style formulas will vary. But when we spied Nicole Kidman's immaculately put-together combination of a neutral shift dress cinched in with a metallic skinny belt and finished with two-tone pumps, all we could think was you're hired.
The actress modeled the look for Calvin Klein's recent NYFW show, but we think it works just as well for those times when you need to make a killer (professional) first impression: the dress reads as confident and savvy, the belt gives the look a modern shine, and the closed-toe pumps add a grounding effect that reassures your future employer that your feet are planted firmly on the ground. Being partial to a bit of color, we'd suggest a riff on this theme, subbing in a rose-hued J.Crew dress with a silver chain belt, and anchoring with a soft gray heel.
