It's only a matter of time before this information comes out, so we might as well be the ones to come forward with it: Yes, we did play the role of Gretl in a 1993 children's theater production of The Sound of Music (and yes we did put our hands over our head in an adorable semi-circle and sing, "The sun has gone to bed and so must I" in the big party scene).
Still, as much as The Today Show has tried to get us all pumped up about Carrie Underwood's turn as Maria in NBC's forthcoming live presentation of the classic production, we just can't seem to muster the Do Re Mi spirit. (Maybe it's our post-Thanksgiving aversion to corsets?)
Until, that is, we pondered the sartorial possibilities, and decided to turn Thursday night's telecast into a sing-slash-dress-along. We briefly indulged the idea of rocking a beer garden-inspired ensemble complete with puffy shirt in the manner of Carrie Underwood's promo pic for the event (above left). Then, we flirted with a nautical-inspired uniform a la actress Ariane Rinehart's get-up as Liesl (above right). But in the end, we decided to pay subtler tribute by rocking one of the three floral dresses featured below, which look as though they could have been fashioned from curtains by a nun-turned-nanny. After all, that option has the most staying power come spring.
